| Coming on the heels of the recent Nikon version, Sigma announces a new superzoom lens of it’s own. The most important differences between the new lens and Sigma’s existing 18-250mm F3.5-6.3 DC OS HSM lens are its more compact size, its macro capability with a maximum magnification ratio of 1:2.9 and the use of Thermally Stable Composite (TSC) material (currently a Sigma exclusive).While not typically the sharpest lenses on the market, superzooms are incredibly useful as travel lenses or for general family/kid photography. You may give up a little in lens performance but you can gain a whole lot from a superzoom’s compact size and extensive focal length range. The addition of 1:2.9 magnification ratio macro capability on Sigma’s new lens is a welcome feature and only increases the usefulness for its target market.
